You get elastic cross straps in the bottom compartment and a large zippered mesh pocket in the top one. The smaller suitcase has one top grab handle, while the larger suitcase also features a grab handle on the side. The suitcases have four single spinner wheels, as well as a retractable wheel handle with a push-button. Especially because they didn’t really hold back on the other features. And if that’s exactly what you are looking for, then Braidwood is the best option for you. These are also the s mallest and lightest hardshell suitcases by High Sierra. They have a fairly simple design, with color accents that help you spot them easily on the carousel. These suitcases are made from ABS plastic and feature a ribbed and decorated shell for improved scratch resistance. The Braidwood suitcases are the most elegant option, in my opinion. But, at least you will be able to spot these immediately on the luggage carousel, thanks to their unique design and color accents.Ĭheck the links below to see the Tephralite suitcases on Amazon: The zipper pullers are lockable, but you would need to buy a TSA padlock. Now, there are no traditional locks on the Tephralite luggage. These suitcases also feature single spinner wheels and a double-barrel wheel handle that locks with the push of a button. The Tephralites have two packing compartments with expandable capacity. The top compartment features a full panel zippered divider with a large mesh pocket, while the bottom compartment has elastic cross straps. Carry-ons won’t be thrown around by baggage handlers, and they have a longer lifespan. Obviously, that depends on what airline you’re flying with (hi Ryanair), and whether you want a carry-on or a checked suitcase. But the bad news is that the shell of your luggage is cracked, so it’s pretty much useless until you can actually repair it. Unlike polycarbonate, ABS will crack upon hard impact. The good news is that it’s super easy to repair your suitcase. The High Sierra suitcases are made from ABS plastic, which has very good scratch resistance. Their design actually reminds me a lot of Samsonite’s Centric luggage – affordable suitcases that appear very tough. The Tephralite suitcases are decent, affordable options. In addition to that, the ribbed shell of these High Sierra suitcases gives them great scratch resistance and makes any existing scuffs barely visible. While ON1 Photo RAW can assemble movies directly from developed raw files, I found Capture One or DxO PhotoLab can do a better job processing the raw files.Adobe, either Lightroom or the combination of Camera Raw/Bridge.However, for the best image quality and speed, I feel the best choices are: It was worth what I paid for it.Īt the end of my blog, I explain the reasons why I did not include other programs in the test, to answer the inevitable “But what about …!?” questions.įor simple time-lapse processing, where the same settings can be applied to all the images in a sequence, all the programs except Affinity Photo, can copy and paste settings from one key image to all the others in a set, then export them out as JPGs for movie assembly. It also kept crashing, despite me using the new ARM version on my M1 MacBook Pro. I struggled to use its complex and overly technical interface, only to get poor results. I cannot recommend Darktable, despite its zero price. If you are adamant about avoiding subscription software, then a combination of DxO PhotoLab and Affinity Photo can work well, providing great image quality, and serving to replace both Lightroom and Photoshop. But it is a poor choice for developing raw images. Affinity Photo works well as a Photoshop replacement, and at a low one-time cost.ON1 Photo RAW had its flaws as well, but can serve as a single-program replacement for both Lightroom and Photoshop.ACDSee Photo Studio, Exposure X7,and Luminar Neo produced good results, but all had flaws. The Adobe alternatives that provided the best raw image quality in my test nightscapes were Capture One and DxO PhotoLab.Though, as I’ve discovered, AI processing can ruin astrophotos if not applied carefully. Adobe Camera Raw (or its equivalent in Adobe Lightroom) still produces superb results, lacking only the latest in AI noise reduction, sharpening and special effects. ![]() Here’s a summary of my recommendations, with the evidence for my conclusions presented at length (!) in the sections that follow: Instead, the orthodox workflow is to stack and align undeveloped raw files with specialized “calibration” software such as DeepSkyStacker or PixInsight that outputs 16-bit or 32-bit TIFFs, bypassing any chance to work with the raw files. The reason - most deep-sky astrophotographers never use a raw developer anyway. NOTE: I did not test the programs with telescope images of nebulas or galaxies. ![]() I also looked at features for preparing and exporting a large batch of images to assemble into time-lapse movies, though the actual movie creation usually requires specialized software. I tested all the programs strictly for the purpose of processing, or “developing” raw files, using nightscape images as the tests. In addition to Adobe Camera Raw (represented by the Adobe Bridge icon), I tested, in alphabetical order, and from left to right in the icons above: I tested only programs that are offered for both MacOS and Windows, with identical or nearly identical features for both platforms. I tested them primarily on sample nightscape images described below. To find out, I compared eight programs, pitting them against what I still consider the standard for image quality when developing raw files, Adobe Camera Raw (the Develop module in Adobe Lightroom is essentially identical). How well do the latest versions of those programs compare now for astrophotography? And what new software choices do we have as we head into 2023? But 2017 was ages ago in the lifetime of software. You can find that earlier survey here on my blog. Patience!Īs a background, in December 2017 I tested ten contenders vying to be alternatives to Adobe’s suite of software. The review is illustrated with 50 high-resolution, downloadable images which will take a while to load. Warning! This is a long and technical blog, but for those interested in picking the best software, I think you’ll find it the most comprehensive test of programs for processing nightscapes. I test nine programs for processing raw files for the demands of nightscape astrophotography. ![]() 7/5/2023 0 Comments Wildermyth review![]() ![]() And so far the most I have ever lost to retirement was like 2 or 3 of my party. Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch Sure, RPGs are good at evoking emotion and forcing you to make game-time decisions, but the sheer magnitude of how much Mass Effect 2 makes you care is a rare achievement. The romance options actually hurt your feelings, the background stories tug at your heartstrings, and the ideological arguments between your friends paralyze you when it comes time to make a choice. Into that breathing room steps the most incredible cast of characters, potentially ever. The game's comfortable place as the space meat in the middle of the "introducing you to this world" and "destroying this world" sandwich gives the plot some breathing room. There's a completely redesigned combat system that evokes the duck and cover style of the Gears games - with Shepherd's special skills and your squad's unique abilities, you get dynamic gameplay that feels personalized. Oh, and it chucks out the goddamn Mako maneuvering. In this sequel (which you can enjoy with the entire trilogy thanks to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition), BioWare takes the foundation laid in Mass Effect (Commander Shepherd must navigate space racism and the potential predetermined destruction of the universe alongside a motley crew of aliens) and builds a beautiful shiny space house on top of it. Plus, you get to swing a karking lightsaber. There's incredible voice-acting, accessible gameplay, and sparkling supporting characters. The game is a Star Wars fan's Eden as it manages to capture that magical, space fantastical essence of the films while imbuing the entire experience with choice. The game lets you pick from three character classes at the start of the game, and choose if your character will align with the dark side or the light side of the Force. Comparisons between the predictions of WMM2020 and recent data collected from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Swarm satellites indicate that the former can still be considered an accurate model. ![]() The report details the current state of Earth’s main magnetic field, and provides a performance analysis of the most recent version of the World Magnetic Model (WMM) released in late 2019, known as WMM2020. South Atlantic anomalyĪs per NASA, the South Atlantic Anomaly arises from two main features-the tilt of the Earth and the flow of molten metals within its outer core.Last month saw the publication of the 2022 State of the Geomagnetic Field Report. The absence of a strong atmosphere over Mars is also attributed to the lack of a magnetic field to shield its environment. Moreover, this also protects the satellites orbiting the Earth from the harmful radiation. Without the protective bubble of the magnetic field, the solar winds can easily damage the entire Earth’s atmosphere and biosphere. The magnetic field is important as it prevents the Sun’s harmful charged particles entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Remember the popular homopolar motor experiment from the school? ![]() The core is in a constant state of motion about 1,800 miles below the surface and this motion helps to generate magnetic fields via convection currents that carry a stream of charged particles. This magnetic field can extend up to millions of kilometres in outer space. Schematic illustration of the invisible magnetic field lines generated by the Earth, (Peter Reid, The University of Edinburgh/NASA) The invisible magnetic field lines encircle the planet between the North and the South. Earth is similar to a magnet bar and the north and south poles represent the two sides. You can easily know about its presence with the help of a magnetic compass, which always points north. The planet Earth has a strong magnetic field, and this magnetic property comes from its core, which hosts molten iron and nickel. Moreover, the recent data from NASA shows that the dent is splitting into two, thus evolving into a major threat for future satellite missions. And scientists acknowledge that this anomaly can pose a risk to spacecraft and satellites. A fairly well-known phenomenon called South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) refers to the unusually weak magnetic field over South America and the southern Atlantic Ocean. But worry not, this change is not expected to have any direct impact on humans. The dent refers to the weak magnetic field over a particular region of the Earth. And the news has caught on like wildfire across the digital community. A dent in the protective shield sounds scary for any person, but what are the scientists talking about when they say South Atlantic Anomaly? The researchers from the US space agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), recently noticed a growing dent in the Earth’s magnetic field over South America. ![]() 7/5/2023 0 Comments Sat score percentiles![]() ![]() The Score Details tab on your score report gives you detailed information on the different parts of your test, including your percentile score for each part.
